Company Spotlight: Understanding RPR | RISMedia

Over the past two years, I have been leading the Broker Outreach Initiative at Realtors Property Resource? (RPR?). During that time, I have spoken with hundreds of real estate professionals in order to present RPR?s value proposition to REALTORS?, as well as the specific benefits to brokers and managers. As a 24-year veteran of the real estate industry, I have seen firsthand the evolution of real estate technology. I also understand that the amount of information that must be processed by a broker, manager and agent is tremendous, especially when it comes to technology. With that in mind, I would like to address what the RPR database can do, not only for the individual agent and real estate organizations, but also for the industry as a whole. I?d like to clarify the RPR core mission and explain, in a nutshell, what?s in it for the broker/owner.

What is Realtors Property Resource?
RPR is a wholly owned subsidiary corporation of NAR. It was created as part of NAR?s Second Century Initiatives in 2008. RPR launched its technology platform in September 2010 and is currently partnered with over 420 MLS?s representing over 65 percent of all NAR REALTOR? members across the country. RPR offers no consumer or public access, meaning brokers and agents control the delivery of RPR reports to their consumers. RPR is not a publicly traded company and has no third party partnerships or investors. RPR is owned by you, the REALTOR?.

What is our focus?
RPR has created the largest comprehensive database of parcel-centric property information in the industry, aggregating hundreds of datasets on over 147 million properties. This single-source database designed by REALTORS?, for REALTORS? is designed to remove the necessity for agents to search for property data from the same multiple sources as their consumers are using. As with any technology system, brokers and agents need to understand how to use this resource to create market-level advantages for their businesses and their company.

Additionally, RPR has focused on creating the gold standard in automated property valuations under the REALTOR? brand with the Realtors Valuation Model? (RVM ?). The RVM has the potential to remove friction in the marketplace, improve the quality and speed of the transaction, and provide REALTORS? with a more accurate valuation to help combat the prevalence of inaccurate, third-party AVMs available to consumers.

What are the benefits to the broker/owner?
RPR can provide huge benefits to the real estate practitioner, but what does RPR have to offer to brokerage firms to provide them with market-level tools that have the ability to enhance existing systems, and potentially reduce costs? The key is to make sure your agents know how to interpret the data and articulate this information to their clients. In order to offer extensive support, training and communication systems for your agents, we have developed the RPR Broker Tools Sets (BTS). These include:

(1) Company Branding - We have built in the ability to brand at each level of your organization?from corporate, to franchise and even at the office level. As agents access the RPR application, generate reports and send RPR generated emails, they?ll be branded back to your brokerage.

(2) Affiliated Service Support - Allows companies to easily display modules of your affiliated or core services companies?such as, mortgage, title, home warranty, insurance and concierge?to your agents, which allows brokers to stay top of mind when their agents are using RPR.

(3) Data Analysis Tool - This provides business intelligence overlay to the entire database, which allows management the ability to use this data for trending, marketing and business planning, along with market share reports, over multiple MLS areas. The reports and graphics can be generated by geography, branch office or the entire company. This by itself is a huge benefit.

Who should replace Jose Aldo at UFC 153?

After Jose Aldo pulled out of his title defense with Frankie Edgar, the UFC was left without a main event in a fight card that is a month away. Who can fill in and face Edgar? Here are some possibilities.

Chan Sung Jung: "The Korean Zombie" is popular, an exciting fighter and will still have Brazilian fans excited to see a card that was decimated in just a few hours time. His last three fights have ended in stoppages, and his win over Dustin Poirier proved he's ready for big time.

Chad Mendes: On Tuesday, Mendes tweeted, "Let's make it for the interim title and IM IN!!" The interim title stipulation is a bit odd when it's not yet known exactly how long? Aldo will be out and unable to defend the belt.

Ricardo Lamas: He had already accepted the fight with Aldo for UFC 153 when Edgar stepped in. He has wins in his last three fights, and could be ready to go for the fight card n Rio.

Jimy Hettes: "The Kid" is undefeated and has shown he can pull out thrilling submission wins. He is scheduled to fight Marcus Brimage at UFC 152, but if there's anything this summer has taught MMA fans, it's that all fight cards are subject to change.

Godofredo Pepey: His fight record is not one that dictates main event status, but it's really, really fun to say Godofredo Pepey.

Klum confirms on 'Katie' she's dating bodyguard

"Project Runway" host Heidi Klum opened up about her divorce from Seal Wednesday when she sat down with Katie Couric for an interview on "Katie."

After the model's ex accused her of "fornicating with the help" before their split was finalized, Klum admits that things have been a bit strained between the two. "I don't know if we're like the greatest friends right now especially the things that he said. ... We're in an OK place," she said.

As for Seal's claim that she had moved on to another man before their divorce? "Obviously it's not true," she insisted. "I've never looked at another man while I was with him, and it's hard when you think that he thinks that." The model then noted that both she and her ex have moved on, which prompted the journalist to ask about rumors that Klum was dating her bodyguard Martin Kristen.

"Yes, I've known him for four years and he's been with our family for the last four years," Klum explained. "I trust him with my children's life. He's a great man, you know, and we just got to know each other from a completely different side."

The "Runway" host may be dating her protector, but she wouldn't go so far as to call it a relationship. At least not yet. "I don't even know if I can even call it (a relationship)," she told Couric. "I don't know, it just started ... I don't know where it's going to go."

Klum also pointed out that it's been tough dating again. "When you then start seeing somebody again for the first time, it's hard then when all of a sudden everyone is watching you," she explained. "It's almost like you can't even have a real, proper chance in a way."

WASHINGTON (AP) ? President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama are at Arlington National Cemetery visiting the graves of service members killed in Afghanistan and Iraq.

The visit to the burial ground across the Potomac River from the White House is part of the president's observance of the 11th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

The Obamas quietly walked between rows of graves at Section 60, which contains the remains of the most recent war dead. Pausing at several graves, Obama placed presidential "challenge" coins at the base of the headstones. The first headstone listed the names of 10 victims of an Oct. 26, 2009, helicopter crash in Afghanistan.

Earlier, the Obamas placed a wreath at the Pentagon and observed a moment of silence on the White House South Lawn.

NEW YORK (AP) ? It was a big week for gadget announcements as Amazon, Nokia and Motorola all tried to generate interest in their products before Apple's expected announcement of a new iPhone next Wednesday.

Amazon announced four new Kindle Fire models and a new line of stand-alone e-readers on Thursday, a day after Nokia and Motorola unveiled five new smartphones between them.

Makers of consumer electronics are refreshing their products for the holiday shopping season. Apple's rivals are hoping that a head start on the buzz will translate into stronger sales.

Nokia and Microsoft, in particular, are trying to generate interest in a new Windows operating system out next month. The two phones announced Wednesday by Nokia are its first to run Windows Phones 8.

Sales of Apple's iPhones are still strong, though the company lost the lead in smartphones to Samsung this year. Samsung Electronics Co. benefited from having its Galaxy S III out in the U.S. in June, while Apple was still selling an iPhone model released last October. A new iPhone is expected as early as this month, allowing Apple to recapture the attention and the revenue.

Apple dominates the market for tablet computers. Seven out of every 10 tablets shipped in the second quarter were iPads, according to research firm IHS iSuppli.

Rivals have been trying to compete with smaller, cheaper models ? such as Amazon's Kindle Fire. On Thursday, Amazon announced new models, including ones with screens nearly as large as the iPad's.

Now there's speculation that Apple will be coming out with a smaller iPad as well.

Here's a look at what to expect:

? NEW IPHONE

Apple Inc. has come out with a new iPhone each year, and that's likely to continue. The new model is expected to work with fourth-generation, or 4G, cellular networks that phone companies have been building. That capability is something the S III and many other iPhone rivals already have. A bigger iPhone screen is also possible.

Apple will host an event in San Francisco next Wednesday. The topic wasn't disclosed, but the email invitation contains a shadow in the shape of a "5'' ? a sign that the iPhone 5 is coming. Sales usually begin a week or two after such an announcement.

One thing is known: Apple plans to update its phone software this fall and will ditch Google's mapping service for its own, as a rivalry between the two companies intensify.

? SMALLER IPAD

Apple has done well selling its full-sized tablet computer, which has a screen that measures nearly 10 inches diagonally. Many companies have tried to come out with iPad alternatives, but the ones that have had moderate success have tended to be those with smaller, 7-inch screens and lower price tags.

There's speculation that Apple will come out with a mini iPad this fall ? possibly with a 7.85-inch screen ? to compete with those competitors. It's not as much a certainty as a new iPhone, though. Apple hasn't said anything about its plans.

? REKINDLING THE FIRE

Amazon.com Inc.'s 7-inch Kindle Fire is one of the smaller tablets with decent sales. Starting next Friday, it will sell an updated version with a faster processor, more memory and longer battery life. It will also cut the price to $159, from $199, making it far cheaper than the iPad, which starts at $399 for the 2011 version still on sale. (The most recent ones start at $499.)

Amazon is also releasing higher-end models under the Kindle Fire HD line. A 7-inch one will go for $199, while an 8.9-inch one will go for $299. There's also a $499 model that can use the 4G cellular networks that phone companies have been building. A data plan will cost an extra $50 a year. The smaller HD model will start shipping next week, while the larger ones will be available Nov. 20.

Amazon also refreshed its line of stand-alone e-readers, offering the Paperwhite, with its own light source. Tablets such as the iPad and the Fire don't work as well in bright light because they are lit from the back. Amazon says the light on the Paperwhite is directed down at the display.

Barnes and Noble Inc., which makes the 7-inch Nook Tablet, may have an update this fall as well.

? MOTOROLA'S RETURN

Though it's a pioneer in the cellphone industry, Motorola hasn't had a hit since the Razr phone came out in 2004. Under new owner Google Inc., Motorola Mobility is trying to change that.

On Wednesday, Motorola announced three new smartphones bearing the Razr name. Verizon Wireless started taking orders for the first of the new phones, the Droid Razr M. It's a cheaper, smaller phone than the Razr that Motorola launched last year. The $99 Razr M will be in stores next Thursday, the day after Apple's announcement.

Motorola will have two high-end models, the Razr HD and Razr Maxx HD, later this year. It's emphasizing long battery life ? up to 21 hours of talk time for the Maxx HD, or 10 hours of video streaming.

These are the first major products from Motorola since Google bought the company for $12.4 billion in May. Google, meanwhile, continues to sell a 7-inch Android tablet, the Nexus 7, made in partnership with AsusTek Computer Inc.

? CALLING ON WINDOWS

Microsoft Corp. will release a new version of the Windows operating system on Oct. 26, one that's designed to work on both traditional computers and tablet devices. A new version of the Windows Phone system is coming out, too.

Once-dominant phone maker Nokia Corp. has been struggling in the shadow of Apple and Android, and it's counting on the new Windows system for a revival. On Wednesday, Nokia and Microsoft unveiled two new devices under Nokia's Lumia brand ? the 820 and the 920.

Nokia CEO Stephen Elop says the new phones will go on sale in the fourth quarter in "select markets." He didn't say what they would cost or which U.S. carriers would have them. Investors were disappointed, and Nokia's stock fell 16 percent on Wednesday.

Samsung, which surpassed Nokia as the world's largest maker of mobile phones in 2011 and overtook Apple in smartphones this year, showed off a Windows 8 phone last week. It didn't announce an availability date either.

? SURFACE

Microsoft plans its own tablet computer, too. It's new territory for Microsoft, which typically leaves it to others to make devices using its software. Now, it will be competing against its partners.

The Surface tablet will come in two versions, both with 10.6-inch screens, slightly larger than the iPad's. One model will run on phone-style chips, just like the iPad, and will be sold for a similar price. A heavier, more expensive version will run on Intel chips and be capable of running standard Windows applications. The Surface will go on sale on Oct. 26.

? NEW BLACKBERRYS

A year ago Research In Motion Ltd. disclosed that it was working on a next-generation phone system for the BlackBerry, which now looks ancient next to the iPhone and Android devices. It was supposed to be out in time for this year's holiday season. That won't happen.

In June RIM pushed the release of BlackBerry 10 devices into early next year, saying it wasn't ready. That means RIM will not only compete with the new iPhone and Android devices out this fall, but it will also have to contend with the new Windows devices.

You?ve probably heard it said before that grandparents get to spoil the kids and then? send them home at the end of the day. Although spoiling may not be the best choice of words, it is true that the bond between grandparents and grandchildren can be very special.

There are many factors that influence how involved grandparents become with the grandkids. Location is perhaps the most obvious. After all, in today?s mobile society, there are no guarantees that your adult child will live in the same state as you do, let alone the same town. When grandma lives right down the street, it is a little easier to spend quality time with each other. Whether close at hand or far away, all grandparents are a valuable asset to the family.

Children benefit from having grandparents in their lives.?

Grandparents can serve as great role models. While providing a sense of family history, they also bring life experience and free time to the table. They can offer a feeling of safety. Staying all night at grandmas may be a gentle way of weaning children away from total dependence on mom and dad, long before they are ready to have a sleepover at a friend?s house.

Not all grandparents have a hands-on style.?

Some grandparents prefer having mom and dad around when the grandkids are spending time with them. That is a perfectly acceptable way of staying involved with the whole family. Just as parenting styles vary, so do grandparenting styles. No matter what type of grandparent you may be, it takes time to bond and establish new traditions with your growing extended family.

Can grandparents be too involved??

Let?s just say that although loving grandparents are important, it is never recommended that they step in and take over. To maintain healthy family relationships, pay attention to the parents? parenting style, including their methods of discipline. Listen to their expectations and do your best to support their decisions. After all, these are your grandkids not your children. That?s a good thing! Remember, you get the best of both worlds. You can spoil them and then send them home at the end of the day. Enjoy!

The blast, across the street from the mosque, damaged six cars and a nearby clinic, collapsing a wall over the entrance. Blood could be seen on the clinic wall and street, an Associated Press reporter at the scene said.

"I heard the strong explosion then saw bricks flying in the air. May God destroy those who placed this bomb here," said Rukneddine resident Mohammed Hamsho, 18.

About two hours later, a car bomb exploded in the upscale neighborhood of Mazzeh between the buildings of the Information Ministry and Justice Ministry, which are about 100 meters (yards), state TV said. The blast caused no casualties but damaged nearby vehicles. Friday is the weekend in Syria and institutions are usually closed.

The blasts came five days after two bombs exploded near the offices of the Syrian military's joint chiefs of staff in Damascus, slightly wounding four officers.

Troops clashed with rebels in two southern Damascus neighborhoods on Friday, including Kazaz, a tightly controlled area that is home to offices of several Syrian security agencies, activists said. There was no immediate word on casualties in the Kazaz fighting but at least four soldiers were killed in clashes with rebels in the Tadamon district, the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights and Local Coordination Committees said.

The Observatory said the 16 bodies of men were found in the Damascus suburb of Deir al-Asafir, which it said was subjected to a major operation by the regime in the past few days. "Search is continuing for more bodies," the group said.

Also in Damascus, several people were either killed or wounded when a Palestinian refugee camp was shelled, activists and state media reported.

The LCC said Syrian troops shelled the Palestinian refugee camp of Yarmouk. State-run Syrian TV confirmed violence in the camp but blamed "armed terrorists" who it said fired rockets into the camp killing 10 people. It added that troops were chasing the gunmen. The regime refers to rebel fighters as terrorists.

When Syria's unrest began, the country's half-million Palestinians at first struggled to remain on the sidelines. But in the past months, young Palestinian refugees ? enraged by mounting violence and moved by Arab Spring calls for greater freedoms ? have been taking to the streets and even joining the rebels.

At least 60 people were killed in violence Friday around the country, from Idlib and Aleppo in the north to Deir el-Zour in the east to Hama and Homs in the center as well as Daraa to the south, the Observatory and LCC said.

The Observatory also reported many arrests in the town of Tel Chehab on the border with Jordan, recaptured by troops Thursday.

Activists said the regime's assault on the town attack aimed to stem the flood of people fleeing Syria's civil war. Several thousand refugees were in Tel Chahab when the Syrian military moved in. It was not known what has happened to them.

In Turkey, Brig. Gen. Awad Ahmad al-Ali, who headed the Damascus office of Syria's Criminal Security Directorate, declared that he defected and joined the opposition.

Al-Ali appeared in a video aired on Al-Arabiya television saying that he is abandoning his job and defecting "from the unjust and illegitimate regime." Sitting in front of a revolution flag, al-Ali added that the regime carried out "evil and horrifying killings that were not even committed by the worst regimes throughout history."

Thousands of members of Syria's military and security forces have defected and left to Turkey in the past month including more than 25 generals.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan blasted the Syrian regime during an international conference on peace in the Middle East that was held in Istanbul Friday.

"In Syria, there is a cruel, oppressive dictator, a regime that is carrying out massacres with heavy weapons against its own people," said Erdogan, one of Assad's harshest critics. "But there are those who remain silent, who applaud and even invite this oppression simply for sectarian considerations."

Erdogan is a Sunni, like most members of the Syrian opposition who are trying remove Assad's regime, which is dominated by members of the president's minority Alawite sect.

With YouTube K-pop star PSY signing with Justin Bieber?s label and Megan Nicole with Bad Boy, it?s clear that mainstream labels are now looking more towards the Internet to discover new talent. Just one hour ago, Mormon?YouTube?stars ?The Piano Guys? announced on their channel that they?ve signed with Sony Masterworks and have an album coming out in October.

Now to be honest, I?ve never heard of these guys before. I only saw the video because a friend messaged me online about them. However, their personalities immediately won me over when I saw their humorous announcement video below:

I finally got around to checking out one of their latest videos and was instantly impressed by the amount of talent these guys had. Their style reminds me of fellow YouTube sensations Walk of the Earth where you have multiple individuals play a single instrument. But that?s not all; with 760,213 subscribers and 135,016,517 channel views, these guys definitely have the numbers to back up their obvious talent. With all five of them being middle-aged guys with kids, it?s definitely proof that it?s never too late to make a name for yourself in entertainment.
